DC-10 goes Java

What nice words are welcoming our crew on Java ground. Still in the middle of the night, but with promising slightly light stripe just over the horizon indicating the morning hours, I touched ground after a two leg hop from Singapore (WSSS) via Palembang (WIPP) to Jakarta Airport (WIII). Flights in general were good even though ATC played again a little on-and-off yesterday. Also some troubles taxiing around and missing the taxiway, causing a crash in the middle of the acre, could not disencourage the continueing of the journey (hmmm - it cost me 50 points at HHG server...). Stars shining bright on the way and with tens of nice islands in the sea, the scenery is surely enjoyable. A recommended area for vacation and leisure trips.


So the next few legs will bring me via Timor finally to Australia, where I hope that more flights can be made during daylight to enjoy the wonderful sceneries in FSX.

Welcome Malaysia and Singapore

Today three more the short kind of legs carried my way more into southeast asia. Starting from Phuket (VTSP) - in deepest dark night - Penang (WMKP) was the next waypoint. Steep ascent and a cruise altitude of FL250 were good to make the flight economical. 


Second leg from Penang to Kuala Lumpur (WMKK) was also quite short. Once again I was struggling a little bit to bring the big DC-10ER lady down to almost sealevel again. Fortunately ATC brought me on a rwy with ILS so while flying into the glideslope I could concentrate on the descent flight from FL100 to the ILS crossing altitude of 4000ft. 


After a very short stopover last leg brought me to Singapore (WSSS) where rwy 20center was my target. Here again ILS was of great help, especially since Singapore was under a thick layer of fog, only about 4-5nm close to the rwy landing lights came out of the clouds. Finally a smooth landing ended today's journey.

Holiday Flights - Bangkok - Ko Samui - Phuket

Loaded with weekend-tourists and a brand new airplane (thanks dad!) I left Bangkok around sunset time Sunday evening (local). McDonnell Douglas' DC-10 is a very nice aircraft with incredible performance values. Thanks to the great first-class service on board, delivered by Swissair of course, my passengers were not able to feel the immense ascent rate of almost 7000ft per minute (that's like jumping in two seconds on top of the Eiffel-Tower ;-).
However I had two great flights in a pretty scenery first to Ko Samui (VTSM) and then further on to Phuket. A little cloudy at the end but I was able to sail the plane safely into the airport of Phuket (VTSP).

Saturday - nice sunset, winds calm, cleared for take-off at Mandalay Airport in Burma / Myanmar. Quite a long leg with roughly 564 nm took me all the way from Myanmar on direct route to Bangkok Intl. (VTBD). Even though ATC was confusing at the start, in Bangkok it did a good job and let me in on Rwy 21.

Today my route took me from Bangladesh (VGZR) to Myanmar (VYMD). The flight into the night was quite decent, the sunset over the right shoulder incredible:

No incidents, wheather was calm, clear of winds some clouds on the way but nothing worrying. Landing with ATC and of course on the Rwy without ILS. But for an experienced pilot that is not an issue as landing with VOR/NDB is almost the same ;-)

First experiences

Currently I'm sitting in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

So far I've made quite interesting experiences on my trip that originally started in Zurich, Switzerland (LSZH). The first part of the journey lead me via Germany, Frankfurt, Netherlands, Great Britain incl. Ireland, Scotland via Bergen to Scandinavia. Then via Eastern Europe touching the Mediterannean in Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and leaving the continent of Europe towards Middle East. Stopovers in Sharm-El-Sheik, Medina, Riadh and then some hopping around Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Further via Pakistan to India all the way down to the South with a weekend in Male and then back via Sri Lanka. Recently flown all the way up again via Bangalore, Chennai and interesting landings in Jabalpul, then via Dehli, and finally via Katmandu and Dhaka to where I am.

Top Experiences so far:

- Sunset at Bergen / Norway (ENBR)

- Steep approach in Sarajevo LQSA over the hills, by night of course

- Nice scenery in Dubai with Burj Dubai Hotel (OMDB)

- High sink rate approach in Colombo (from FL330 down to 4000ft in few minutes - thank god its only a simulation :)

- Landing at Jabalpur India VAJB at night without any Navaid and without runway lights - but I made it :-)

How it started

How it started:


Using FSX in Multiplayer Mode I got to know about Hippy-Happy-Germany community. After registering and using this incredible service I got very excited and started to plan a bigger thing which should result in a virtual trip around the world. Some days - collecting points with regular jobs - later, I joined Fly-Germany Lufthansa community which offers as one of the biggest virtual airline many destinations around the world and therewith a nice possibility to get around our planet using VL-mode.


At this moment I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the fsxtools-team and of course the owners of FlyGermany-Lufthansa for their engagement and super job, keeping the server clean and alive!
